Queensr˙che Live at Sweden Rock Festival
07.06.03
I guess I’m pretty conservative when it comes to reviewing a band like the
mighty R˙che. By that I mean that the band had their best period from Rage for
order (86) to Empire (90), with Operation mindcrime (88) being the ultimate
masterpiece. Judging from the publics responce on their newer material
especially songs made after Promised land, there are thousands of people sharing
my opinion! Only ”Breakdown” from Q2K came down as a possible future
Queensr˙che classic, having the sound and the structure of their golden era.
The last hour or so of the show was pure
gold though, as the band served up: ”The needle lies”, ”Spreading the
disease”, ””Revelution calling”, ”Jet City Woman”, ”The mission”
and ”Eyes of a stranger”. Dispite the fact that Geoff Tate had some problems
with his microphone this part of the concert was the better one, even if the
mentioned problems was destructive to the overall impression. The guitarsolos
could also have been much better, so there’s no doubt that Chris De Garmo
brought the band into another dimension guitarwise, having lots more to offer.
Scott Rockenfield on the other hand, was superb! Now there’s a drumgod if
there ever was one! In my opinion Queensr˙che delivered the goods, but not to
the extent that I had hoped for. The verdict: Convincing at times, not
convincing at all other times!
